Pall Mall is a world famous cigarette brand manufactured R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Outside the US Pall Mall cigarettes are produced by the British American Tobacco Company. The cigarettes were first produced in 1899 as a brand intended for the upper class smokers. The product reached the peak of its popularity in the 1960s becoming the number one cigarette brand in America. Although this brand has a particular logo easily recognizable by any person that smokes, the packs can be different depending on the market for which the cigarettes are intended. Because of their long history and popularity Pal Malls have been repeatedly referred to in literature and movie-making industry. Stephen King used this brand name in some of his novels, while Kurt Vonnegut called Pall Mall cigarettes «a classy way to commit suicide». Pall Mall manufacturers were among the first ones to introduce an innovation in the way tobacco was stuffed into the cigarette, therefore making the cigarettes less harsh on the throat. Pall Mall for a long time was famous as a company producing exclusively unfiltered cigarettes, and only in 2001 the first filtered version appeared. However, there is still the unfiltered blend of Pall Mall available in soft packs and with traditional design.
